Build allyship. Create social change.

Have you thought about the different types of inte Have you thought about the different types of intelligence. Most people know about IQ and EQ. There is a broad spectrum of what makes up human intelligence.

𝗜𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁, and the most well-known measure of general intelligence, it’s a person's ability to process information, use logic, reason and solve problems. IQ tests measure this through a variety of questions and provide a score.

𝗘𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁, it’s the ability to understand your own and others’ emotions, and to use emotional information to guide thinking, behaviour, and interpersonal relationships.

𝗖𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 and refers to being inquisitive and innovative. People with CQ deal well with the unknown and ambiguity, and can provide simple solutions to complex
problems.

𝗠𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁, it’s doing the right thing, even when faced with adversity and tough choices yet they have the courage to follow through.

𝗣𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 is recognising one's physical
wellbeing, building resilience and ability to persevere by having better balance e.g. work/life balance.

𝗦𝗤 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 and this develops from learning from experiences with people, relationships, doing well or not so well in social settings.

A positive bias only towards IQ is limiting and those who value IQ as a privilege can inadvertently marginalise other types of intelligence.

This positive IQ bias plays into how we test, assess, recruit, reward, promote, as well as how we may write job descriptions or even talk about an ideal candidate.

The next time you read or write a job spec, consider the spectrum of intelligence. And aspire to have a team that is the sum of all quotients.
